How To

How to make a perfect Omelette

Omelets have always been a favourite food to eat for breakfast. But how do you create them perfectly? There are many recipes and methods I tried, but none worked. I have some tips and tricks to help you make delicious, fluffy omelets every single morning.

Before we start making omelets, let's remember that eggs are temperamental. Eggs must be purchased fresh, preferably organic, and kept chilled until ready for cooking. The yolks and whites will not form properly if they aren't kept cold enough. Your omelets will look strangely colored if this happens. It is best to use room-temperature eggs if you are going to cook them right away.

You might also try separating the egg before adding to the pan. It is important not to allow any white to mix with the yolk as this could lead to the omelet becoming curdled.

You could end up burning the bottom half of the egg if the egg is added directly to the heat source. Instead, heat the egg for 10 seconds in the microwave before placing it in the pan. The heat from the microwave cooks the egg just enough without overcooking it.

Next, let’s talk about mixing the egg. When mixing eggs, it is important to thoroughly beat them. You can do this by turning the bowl of your mixer upside down. Now shake the bowl vigorously. This way, the air inside the bowl gets whipped around and mixes the egg thoroughly.

The fun part is now - adding the milk to the mixture. First, pour half of the milk into the beaten eggs and then fold the eggs gently into the remaining milk. Do not worry if you see streaks of egg; they will disappear when the omelet is flipped.

After you have folded the eggs, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil has started to sizzle, turn the heat down to low. Once the oil has gotten hot, add 1/4 cup of butter and swirl it around so that the entire pan is coated. Carefully open the pan's lid and add salt to the pan. An additional pinch of salt will prevent the omelet form sticking to your pan.

Once the omelet has formed, cover the pan again and wait for the top side to set completely. Flip the omelet with a spatula, or flip it upside down. Cook the other half for another minute. Serve the omelet immediately by removing it from the pan.

This recipe works best using whole milk. Skimmed milk is also possible.
